Instruments For Sale

I offer a hand picked selection of stringed instruments for sale, including new work from my workshop available for direct sale, earlier instruments of mine offered for resale, restored instruments, and selected instruments by other makers.

Instruments are chosen for their craftsmanship, musical quality, rarity or historical interest. Every instrument is personally assessed and, where necessary, adjusted, repaired or restored before being offered for sale, and is presented in optimum playing condition.

Condition, provenance and any work undertaken are described as clearly as possible, so buyers can purchase with confidence. Written valuations are also available.

Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST where applicable. International buyers should allow for additional freight and insurance costs, together with any import VAT, duties or other charges applied in the destination country.

Appraisal

This 10-string cittern has an addictive, resonant tone that keeps drawing me back to play it whilst here in the workshop. There’s a warmth and depth to the sustain that is immediately engaging — the Indian rosewood body providing richness and clarity, while the finely carved European spruce soundboard offers exceptional responsiveness and projection.

It is currently set up in G–D–A–D–G tuning, a versatile and resonant configuration that suits Celtic and contemporary folk repertoire beautifully. That said, the instrument lends itself readily to alternative tunings, making it a flexible and expressive companion for exploratory players.
