Pricing - Classical Guitars

Classical guitars are typically priced between AUD $6,000–$12,000 (including GST). This range is intended as a guide and reflects the majority of instruments made in the workshop. Pricing depends on instrument type, materials, build time, and level of finish, and may occasionally fall outside this range where a project is notably simpler or more complex.

Minor variations to established models—such as changes to string length or fingerboard width—do not affect the price. All instruments are made individually to order, with final pricing confirmed prior to commencement.

Historical Instruments

Historical instruments are undertaken on an individual basis and assessed according to the instrument type, historical period, level of research required, materials, and complexity of construction.

Pricing for historical instruments is determined on a project-by-project basis and confirmed following discussion and agreement on the scope of the work. Because of the wide variation in design, research, and build requirements, pricing and timelines are not standardised. Not all historical instrument requests are suitable for the workshop, and projects are accepted selectively.

Commissions, Wait Times & Completion

New instrument work is discussed and accepted on an ongoing basis. The workshop schedule is managed carefully to maintain a balanced workload and consistent standards of workmanship, allowing appropriate time and attention to be given to each instrument.

Typical waiting times for new commissions are approximately 6–9 months, depending on the nature of the instrument and the level of work already scheduled at the time of enquiry. More complex projects, including historical instruments, may require longer timeframes.

Indicative completion periods are discussed at the outset of a project and confirmed in writing prior to commencement. While estimated timeframes are provided in good faith, exact completion dates cannot be guaranteed, as all instruments are made individually and schedules may vary.

Process

Enquiries begin with an initial conversation, either by email or in person, to discuss the instrument, suitability of the work, and available options.

Where a project proceeds, a written quotation is provided confirming the scope of work, pricing, and an indicative completion period. A 20% deposit is required to secure a place in the workshop schedule.

Once construction is complete, the remaining balance is invoiced prior to collection, and the instrument is prepared for handover.
